Nemanja Vidic will make his return from an eight-month injury absence as Manchester United hit the road for a three-game pre-season European jolly-up.The 30-year-old United and Serbia skipper resumed full contact training at the tail end of last month as he bids to be fit for the Red Devils' first game of the Premier League season against Everton on August 20.Vidic has been sidelined since being stretchered off with a cruciate knee ligament injury during the Champions League clash against Basel on December 7, 2011.

Sir Alex Ferguson confirmed that his skipper is back in harness – and not a moment too soon.Fergie said: “Chris Smalling is out for 10 weeks with his metatarsal operation and Jonny Evans is still just in light training.“They’re big losses at the moment and they will miss the start of the season.“Rafael is away [with Brazil at the Olympics] and Fabio is away on loan so there are four defensive players that we don't have for the back four positions.“We do have Phil Jones, Nemanja Vidic, Rio Ferdinand and Patrice Evra, though. That will be the back four on tour. Hopefully we don’t get any more injuries as it would leave me a bit short.”United's three-game trip across Europe will see them play Valerenga on August 5 in Oslo, Norway, with games against Barcelona and Hannover to come.
